Skills For Life Conferences 2006

The National Skills for Life Conferences 2006 are to be held in London, Birmingham and York in November. This year’s conference theme is Working in Partnership. Practitioners, managers, researchers and others with a stake in Skills for Life can book a place at these FREE conferences at https://secure.symphonyem.co.uk/SkillsForLife2006/ The conferences will be addressed by Bill Rammell, Minister of State for Higher Education and Lifelong Learning (Birmingham)*, Phil Hope, Skills Minister (London)*, and David Bell, Permanent Secretary, DfES (York). Among the other speakers will be employer-champions of the Skills for Life programme, trade union leaders and authors of the hugely successful Quick Reads series for adults. The conferences will also: · provide a forum for practitioners to discuss and contribute to the future direction of the strategy; · showcase some of the most successful Skills for Life projects; and · highlight key messages from research for policy and practice. The 2006 conferences will be held on: · Friday, November 3, London · Tuesday, November 21, Birmingham · Monday, November 27, York Conference workshops will include: Functional skills and Skills for Life; Entry level learning; Embedded learning; Progression from Skills for Life to Level 2; ICT and Skills for Life; ESOL (funding, qualifications and citizenship); Skills for Life teacher and support workforce; Frontline workers: engaging new learners; Young offenders and young people at risk; Quick Reads and reading for pleasure; Whole organisation approach to Skills for Life; Skills for Life quality improvement programme; and a Skills for Life policy briefing. As in previous years, the conferences are being organised for the Department for Education and Skills by the National Research and Development Centre for Adult Literacy and Numeracy, www.nrdc.org.uk
