NATECLA Webinar - Managing volunteer ESOL tutors in an online world

Title: Managing volunteer ESOL tutors in an online world

Date: Tuesday 1 Sept 2020

Time: 15:00 to 16:30

Presenters: Claudia Belloni

Cost: NATECLA members £5, non-members £25

What would we do without Volunteer ESOL Tutors? We, at the Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre (BURC), would have not been able to deliver nine classes per week – a total of 17 hours of teaching – to almost 100 adult learners from over 30 different countries for the past five years. Then COVID-19 happened along with the lockdown, the subsequent shutdown of all our free classes and the migration of all our delivery online. Once more, our volunteers have been paramount in planning, designing and delivering online classes to our student base, made up of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.

This workshop will look into how to manage volunteers when daily life suddenly moves online, how to keep them engaged and motivated and how to get them ready for a completely different way of teaching.
