Encouraging Diversity in Healthcare Employment Conference

Back to events list
EDHE Conference on Tuesday 6th November QEII Conference Centre London Falling birth rates, ageing populations that are living longer and new advances in healthcare are all factors which demand that the National Health Service and Social Care providers in England consider future workforce demands to try to meet a projected deficit of employees in their organisations. It is also recognised that in many areas, the current workforce employed in Health and Social Care does not reflect the ethnic make-up of local communities. The EDHE Conference on Tuesday 6th November will explore the challenges and benefits offered by encouraging diversity within the health and social care sector. In particular, the conference will address the realities of employing those for whom English is not their first language. Confirmed speakers include: Sir Bernard Crick, Emeritus Professor of Politics at Birkbeck College London and former Adviser on Citizenship to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and on citizenship as naturalisation and integration for the Home Office. Peter Lavender, Director of Research, Development and Information at The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) Keith Best, Chief Executive of the Immigration Advisory Service, which provides free legal advice and representation for persons with immigration and asylum problems throughout the UK. Roger Kline, Head of Higher Education, Equality and Employment Rights for NATFHE the university and college lecturers' union. A main aim of the Conference is to present the findings from an Equal action research project that has produced learning materials to test the hypothesis that “if you teach people English in the language and context of health and social care they would be more inclined to apply for jobs in that sector”. The conference is being held at the prestigious QEII Conference Centre in the heart of Westminster and will be of particular interest to senior managers and HR professionals from both the public and private sectors. The conference is FREE OF CHARGE to attend and you can find out more information and book online at http://www.edheconference.org/default.asp?Invite= Please contact us on 020 8874 7488 or at info@edheconference.org should you require any further information.
