Professional Development Award in ESOL Tutoring Development.
The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) is developing a Professional Development Award (PDA) in ESOL Tutoring. The award will be a qualification, set at SCQF 6, intended as a first step in the career of ESOL tutors and teachers in Scotland and is aimed primarily at people who have no ESOL-specific teaching qualifications, especially those working in the community or providing ESOL support as volunteers.
Research and consultation has been taking place nationally. An online survey targeting those delivering and providing ESOL was initiated to gauge the nature of ESOL teaching in Scotland and provide a greater understanding of the training needs of practitioners. Over 75 organisations and almost 350 individuals have responded. The analysis will be completed shortly. The second phase of the consultation process is a series of workshops, which are to take place across Scotland:
Inverness 27 Nov 2007
Perth 29 Nov 2007
Dumfries 04 Dec 2007
Edinburgh 06 Dec 2007
*Skye 11 Dec 2007
Glasgow 13 Dec 2007
The events will run in the morning, followed by lunch. The events are free. They will provide feedback on the survey, an opportunity to learn more about the PDA, and a chance to give your views on ESOL teaching qualifications.
*The event in Skye will have a different format. The morning session will concentrate on the PDA. Lunch will be followed by an overview courses and update on the SQA NQ ESOL units by Margaret Allan followed by a Q&A session
