Opening Workshop on Brazilian Migration to the UK: ‘In Dialogue with Brazilians in Diaspora’ 27th January 2009 4pm-7pm Venue: Royal Holloway, University of London, Room F1, Montague House, Montague Place, 11 Bedford Square, London , WC1E 6DP . Nearest Tube Station: Russell Square The aim of this workshop is to open up a dialogue between people who are researching Brazilian migration to the UK, and members of the UK’s Brazilian community(ies). It is open to students, academics, researchers, representatives or members of organisations and sectors that are associated with the Brazilian community, and who are keen to engage in processes of mutual understanding and knowledge-sharing, to open up questions and to construct pathways relating to diverse aspects of the lives of the Brazilian diaspora in the UK. Luís Kuwe Aguiar will discuss ‘consumption in diaspora and ethnic identity’. Aguiar graduated in Agronomy from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil and has an MA in Agricultural Economics from the University of London. He currently teaches at the Royal Agricultural College’s School of Business. Edmar da Rocha’s paper will examine ‘opportunities for young Latin American immigrants in London and Milan’. Rocha graduated in Social Sciences and has an MA Social Psychology from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), Brazil. He is currently working on his doctoral thesis at the University of Milan. Participation in the seminar is free.
