Ruth Hayman Trust: Afghan evening
The Ruth Hayman Trust fund raising event - 13 November. - St Anne's Church, Highgate West Hill, London N6 6AP Delicious Afghan home cooking: vegetarian and meat dishes (including recipes) Wines and soft drinks, Afghan music, a raffle and sale of rare, vintage Indian jewellery. Many thanks from the RUTH HAYMAN TRUST for supporting our recent Afghan evening. It seems that everybody enjoyed themselves as much as I did, learning about Shabibi’s amazing life and tasting her mouth-watering food (she cooks for 100 guests as though she’s making a family meal). The excellent bottom line is that we raised over £3,000. But even substantial sums don’t sit around for long. A few days later we were dispensing £5,000 in grants. But demand has always exceeds our modest supply. We aim to distribute £15,000 a year to our applicants, a drop in the ocean, because requests total nearly 20 times that sum. We do what we can, managing to raise at least £5,000 a year through events. Our ever-loyal regulars donate a further £5,000 (and remembering Gift Aid always helps). And the rest of the necessary money? We receive donations from charitable institutions and trusts. Recently, when one of our trustees named the RUTH HAYMAN TRUST as a benefactor in her new will, her solicitor was reminded of a charitable trust client who could make an immediate donation. Can you think of any charity to whom we could apply? Are you in our loyal band of regulars? If not, why not join and donate through Banker’s Order? It would certainly help provide a firmer platform for our efforts. Necessary forms are available for download on www.ruthhaymantrust.com By the way, our efforts seem to inspire City and Islington College students (they raised £300+ through Bring & Buy). And their choice of annual class outing? Our recent Afghan Evening. If you’re aware of any sympathetic group possibly eager to raise funds on our behalf, please let us know. Your generosity has helped us enter 2011 with coffers marginally less depleted. Future plans include a classical musical evening for the autumn (not the spring, as originally scheduled) with a star winning violinist among the artists. Rest assured, we’ll keep you posted. Best wishes and season’s greetings.
