A Woman’s Place – Phase 2. A project with Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Somali women

A Woman’s Place – Phase 2 “A New Approach to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)”, recently published by the Department for Innovation Universities and Skills (DIUS), refers to the NIACE investigative study, 'Dare to Dream'. This study focused on the learning journeys of Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Somali women. NIACE has recently received funding from EIF and DIUS to continue this work. The project, ‘A Woman’s Place – Phase 2’, will run from May 2009 to December 2010. The purpose of the project is to: - recruit specific groups of women that may have a lower level of English language skills and are at risk of social exclusion with a primary focus on Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Somali women. - engage them in a wide range of meaningful and relevant engagement and learning activities; encourage them and their families to engage more actively with schools, health services and in community activities; - refer them to further learning opportunities.
