17 February 2010

In April 2010, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) will introduce a new Quality Assurance System. This will draw together all the work that goes into ensuring learners and employers receive quality experiences from post-16 learning providers. From April, the planning, commissioning and funding of 16–19 education and training will be the responsibility of local authorities, supported by the Young People's Learning Agency (YPLA). Responsibility for post-19 education and training will lie with the Skills Funding Agency. These responsibilities will include quality assurance and monitoring of the performance of providers throughout the sector. The new Quality Assurance System will enable all post-16 learning providers to ensure they are working to the same quality standards, and that they are rewarding and recognising excellence. It will be based on established systems and processes, but with greater clarity – for example, it will demonstrate how separate elements such Ofsted inspections and the Framework for Excellence (FfE) fit together. Detailed operational guidance will be provided. The Quality Assurance System will be developed with the input of stakeholders that include the Association of Colleges, the Association of Learning Providers, the 157 Group and the Association of School and College Leaders. http://www.excellencegateway.org.uk/page.aspx?o=269605
