NATECLA -The National Association for Teachers of English and other Community Languages to Adults - is the professional body for ESOL teachers throughout the UK. We also have charitable status.

We give practitioners a unique opportunity to be part of a community of like-minded professionals, ensuring that their voice is heard on matters which affect the ESOL field. Through our network of trustees, committee members, branches and other volunteers we have an unrivalled reputation for:

National Conference

Our National Conference is the leading event in the ESOL teaching calendar and has been for over 25 years. The event attracts ESOL and ELT practitioners from all over the UK to engage in superb talks and workshops, discussion and ideas-sharing sessions, a diverse exhibition area and relaxed social activities. These events take place in professional venues, where delegates and exhibitors can take advantage of high-quality catering, comfortable overnight accommodation and endless networking opportunities.

  • The Ruth Hayman Trust is NATECLA’s nominated charity. It gives educational grants for a wide range of courses to support people who have come to settle in The UK and speak English as a second or other language. This fun quiz is THE Friday night social event at conference. An opportunity to network and unwind after a busy afternoon programme – it’s become a muchloved part of the Conference. Associate your company’s brand with this very special charity and event. The package includes:

    • A £500 donation from your company to the Ruth Hayman Trust

  • The NATECLA bursary scheme is designed to ensure that members on a limited income are able to attend the NATECLA National Conference. Through this sponsorship package, we aim to award bursaries to up to 8 individuals.

    This package includes:

    • 2 bursaries which will cover 100% of the cost of a ticket (full weekend residential), and

    • 6 bursaries to cover 50% of the cost of a ticket (full weekend residential)

    • Your company logo on all publicity and correspondence related to the conference bursary scheme

    • A half page advert in Language Issues

  • NATECLA's National Conference offers delegates a resources exhibition where they can find out more about the examination products available in the field, browse the latest classroom materials and explore CPD opportunities available to ESOL practitioners.

    This exhibition routinely attracts publishers, technology providers, examining boards, universities and other organisations who want to showcase their products, services or qualifications and meet with English language decision makers and influencers from the fields of further, adult and community education.

Webinar sponsorship

Our webinars are 75-minute online sessions presented by top-rated trainers. They focus on practical teaching skills equipping practitioners with a range of ideas and new approaches that they can take straight to the classroom. They take place throughout the academic year, with several scheduled each term. Up to 100 practitioners are able to attend each webinar and many are fully booked!

Branch event sponsorship

NATECLA operates branches throughout the UK in locations such as Scotland, Ireland, Wales, the Midlands, the North West, London and the East of England. Some of our branches run a number of high-quality day and half day conferences throughout the year - both face-to-face, online or even hybrid. With a regional focus, they support ESOL managers, teachers, trainees, researchers and volunteers with practical teaching workshops and updates from the sector.

Language Issues advertising

Language Issues is NATECLA's part peer-reviewed journal for language teaching professionals and is the only academic journal focused entirely on the ESOL context in the UK. It explores the area between academic research and classroom practice, discussing teaching, training, management and research into ESOL and community languages.

An electronic subscription of two editions per year is included in all membership packages plus the journal is subscribed to by teachers, students, researchers and academic libraries across the UK and abroad.
